The air freight situation from Asia to the United States has reached backlogs of critical proportion. All Far East origins are reporting massive amounts of air cargo ready for export and depleted space allocation. The normal onslaught of peak season coupled with a tentative West Coast labor strike, additional security measures and 10+ 747 freighters being pulled from rotation because of safety issues have expounded the circumstances. Major airfreight hubs such as Hong Kong, Taiwan, Korea and Japan are experiencing delays of 2 to 7 days for uplift of origin cargo and in some cases longer delays for trans-shipped cargo. This Peak season rush is anticipated to last another month and beyond.
As a value added service Star Asia has chartered our own 747-400 that will begin operating Hong Kong to New York and Atlanta on a weekly rotation starting July 7, 2002, and continuing a weekly Sunday Hong Kong departure through November 2002. For certain you can utilize this charter for all of your Hong Kong and Southern China air cargo.
